Corte Madera

Corte Madera is a wonderful community in Central Marin, with great schools and fabulous shopping.

Corte Madera/Larkspur are known as the “twin cities” of Marin  and feature many friendly, relatively affordable neighborhoods.  Exit Paradise Drive and you’re in east Corte Madera.  Madera del Presidio is a recently built neighborhood of good-size family homes.  Although set somewhat close together, in today’s typical style, these homes are quickly snapped up for $1.5 million or more.  The older subdivisions such as Mariners Cove and Marin Estates have many homes that have been remodeled and expanded over the years. Pop into the Nugget Market for some gourmet treats.  The people on the east side fought for this upscale market some years ago, and it has helped to transform this sunny (but sometimes windy) area into a attractive, up and coming community.  Landscaping along the main stretch is done by the town’s all volunteer Beautification Committee. The highly regarded private school, Marin Country Day School,  and the newly constructed public school, The Cove are nearby.

On the other side of the highway is Corte Madera.  Older homes, some dating back to the turn of the century, are on the south side of Tamalpais Drive in the Chapman Park neighborhood.  A later developed subdivision from the 50’s and 60’s called Madera Gardens is on the north side.  You’d never guess, but many of these are water front homes, as canals from the bay wind through the backyards. Another nice residential area is Christmas Tree Hill Older neighborhoods surround this small historic retail area called Old Corte Madera Square, where a band pavillion and hanging flower baskets are also courtesy of the town’s Beautification Committee.
